Biography

Merry Barua, Director of Action for Autism (National Centre for Autism), pioneered autism services in India by starting the first specialist school, teacher training course, and the Autism Network, while enabling services across South Asia and influencing legislation. She has championed autism rights, contributing to inclusion in laws like the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and promoting neurodiversity across sectors. Merry has served on committees of Rehabilitation Council of India, National Council of Educational Research and Training, World Health Organisation and others, authored key publications, and received global recognition, including being an Ashoka Fellow and INSAR awardee. She is also a parent of an autistic son, professional, and changemaker.
