Introduction

The Leave No Children Behind in Education (RISE) initiative is dedicated to fostering inclusive education for children with disabilities within Budhanilkantha and Godawari Municipalities in Nepal. This project aligns with Nepal’s constitutional commitment to education for all, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable quality education. Our vision is a society where every child, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential through access to quality education in an inclusive environment. This initiative aims to create a learning environment where all children feel welcomed, supported, and valued.

Objectives and Outcomes

General Objective

To promote inclusive education for children with disabilities in Budhanilkantha and Godawari Municipalities, ensuring equitable access to quality education.

Specific Objectives

Enhance the capacity of schools to provide inclusive learning environments.

Increase the integration of children with disabilities, including those with autism, into mainstream educational settings.

Improve teachers' knowledge, skills, and attitudes towards inclusive practices.

Provide necessary support services and resources for children with disabilities and their families.

Raise community awareness about the importance of inclusive education.

Expected Outcomes

Increased enrolment and retention of children with disabilities in mainstream schools.

Improved learning outcomes for children with disabilities.

Greater community understanding and acceptance of disability.

Completed Major Activities

Rapport Building: Establishing strong relationships with federal/ local Government bodies, schools, and, communities.

Policy Review: Assessing existing policies and practices related to inclusive education.

Disability Screening: Conducting comprehensive disability screening programs to identify children in need of support.

Teacher Training: Training to teachers on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Psychological first aid (PFA) training to teachers

Community Awareness: Raising awareness among community members about the disability and importance of inclusive education.

Support for ASD Service Centers: Strengthening autism service centers to provide necessary support and resources.
