Dr. Sunita Maleku Amatya is a pioneering anaesthesiologist and a leading activist for autism rights in Nepal. She is the Founder and Chairperson of the AutismCare Nepal Society (ACNS), a national center dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and their families.
Biography
Dr. Sunita Maleku Amatya is an anesthesiologist and chairperson of AutismCare Nepal Society (ACNS). A passionate advocate, autism activist and mother to an autistic son. She became one of the catalysts along with other parents to establish ACNS in 2008 to create a supportive community in Nepal. Under her leadership, ACNS has become a national center for diagnosis, education and vocational training. Her relentless advocacy was pivotal in having autism recognized in Nepal’s disability policy. In 2024, she received the prestigious INSAR Research Advocacy Award for her global contribution to autism research and advocacy. She is currently the Southeast Asia Regional Representative to INSAR.
